Typically on my That’s What’s Up series, I have discussed things that are more focused under the umbrella of biodegradability or things that better the planet. Today I’m going a little bit more food product focused, but as you’ll see, this has definitely improved my personal state of being.
I’m someone who has had a long-standing Coca-Cola addiction for years now. (Anytime I try to shorten that phrase to “Coke habit” I get the weirdest looks, btw.) There was a point where I was drinking up to 8 Cokes a day, but more regularly I would drink between 3-5. I love Coke, I don’t care what anyone says about it. However, I know Coke is not good for me.
Thankfully, I was able to significantly reduce my Coke consumption by finding Zevia.
See, I’ve tried to get myself to quit drinking Coke before. Many times. It’s hard to do when sparkling water is mostly gross and doesn’t hit the spot like an ice cold Coke.
My husband and my sister both have tried to help me find healthier alternatives for carbonated beverages and we finally found something that we all enjoyed.
Zevia is more than just a sparkling water. It’s a zero calorie beverage that also has absolutely no sugar. Which, for me, is the crucial ingredient to replace and eliminate out of my diet. With diabetics in my family, there’s more than enough evidence that if I don’t change the way I treat my body, I too have the more than likely chance to develop a nice case of diabetes. I’m not sure about you, but diabetes isn’t exactly something I want to sign up for.
The challenge with finding decent carbonated beverage replacements is that I don’t enjoy the flavor of them enough to buy that instead of Coca-Cola. However, with Zevia it’s a lot easier. They have the sweetness of a soda without the guilt of downing 39+ grams of sugar in one gulp. They sweeten their beverages with Stevia which is a natural sweetener that is even diabetic friendly as it won’t raise your blood sugar.
However, if you’re looking for a full-on Coke replacement, I hate to break it to you that this isn’t it. Their cola flavor is fine if you’re someone who is okay drinking generic cola flavor. As a Coke snob, I’m just not. Their Root Beer and Cream Soda flavors are amazing though, and they have claimed the prime real estate in our refrigerator where my beloved Coca-Cola used to sit.
For anyone out there like me that loves a soda but doesn’t love what it does to your body, I suggest trying a Zevia. They’re a healthier, guilt-free alternative for any carbonated beverage and they’re worth at least trying if you happen to come across them. If you’re someone who’s tried Zevia, what’s your favorite flavor? Do you mix it with any juices or other drinks to give yourself other flavor options?
